The Guardian has an Oscars page with a selection of articles about the awards and the growing race row surrounding them.
The Los Angeles Times has an article in which Spike Lee says he’s boycotting the Awards and going to a Basketball game instead.
Marlon Wayans has a few things to say too…
All this guarantees the Oscars will be a highly watched event, yet again. There are still a few more people who will be joining the debate and no doubt making fools of themselves. It seems like by the time t event is over there will be clear sides. Those who think black actors are right to be upset, and the others who don’t.
Show host ChrisRock is aiming to tackle the issue head on rather than join the boycott. From Rolling Stone Magazine;
The spread of #OscarsSoWhite and the subsequent boycott by Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith and Spike Lee forced Rock to tear up his original monologue and go with something more topical. “Chris is hard at work. He and his writing staff locked themselves in a room,” Hudlin said. “As things got a little provocative and exciting, he said, ‘I’m throwing out the show I wrote and writing a new show.”
